SASSA Status Pending: Meaning & What to Do in 2026
Seeing “Pending” when you check your SASSA or SRD application can be frustrating, especially when you are waiting for a decision or payment.
In most cases, a pending status does not automatically mean that your application has been declined. It generally means that your application has been received but SASSA has not yet completed the checks or final assessment needed to make a decision.
This guide explains what a SASSA pending status can mean, why an SRD R370 application may remain pending, what you should check, and when you may need to take further action.
Important: Grant Assist SA is an independent information website. We are not SASSA and cannot access, approve or change your application. Never send your ID number, banking details, PIN or password to an unofficial website or person.
What Does “SASSA Pending” Mean?
A pending SASSA status usually means your application is still being processed and a final decision has not yet been made.
For applications submitted through SASSA’s general online services, SASSA describes an Application Pending status as an application that has been processed but is still awaiting final approval or final assessment.
For the SRD grant, SASSA has also explained that a monthly status may remain pending while verification of the application for that period is still incomplete.
This means Pending is different from Declined.
A declined application has already received an unsuccessful decision and normally displays a reason for that decision. A pending application is still waiting for the assessment process to finish.
If you want to understand other results such as Approved, Declined, Referred or Bank Details Pending, see our SASSA Status Meanings guide.
Why Is My SRD Status Still Pending?
There is not always one single reason.
SASSA may need to verify information before it can approve an SRD application.
Information used in the assessment process can include details connected to your:
- identity;
- eligibility;
- financial circumstances;
- banking information;
- personal information supplied in your application; and
- information held by relevant government or other authorised institutions.
SASSA has previously explained that when required verification has not yet been finalised, an SRD application can continue to display a pending status.
The current SRD application consent also permits SASSA to verify information relating to an applicant’s financial status, income and banking information with relevant institutions as part of assessing an application.
You can learn more about the overall checking process in our SRD Status Check guide.
Does Pending Mean My Application Will Be Approved?
No.
A pending status means a final result has not yet been confirmed.
After assessment, the application may eventually show a result such as:
- Approved
- Declined
- another status requiring action or verification
Do not treat Pending as a guarantee that payment is coming.
Similarly, you should not assume that Pending means your application has failed.
The safest approach is to keep checking the official SASSA service for the actual result.
How to Check a Pending SASSA Status
For an SRD application, use the official SASSA SRD website.
You can also read our SASSA Status Check guide for instructions on checking your result safely.
When using an official status service:
- Go directly to the official SASSA or SRD website.
- Select the appropriate application-status option.
- Enter the information requested by the official service.
- Check the month you are concerned about if you receive the SRD grant.
- Read the exact status and any instructions displayed with it.
Never enter your ID number or banking information into a website simply because somebody sent you a link by SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook or email.
Grant Assist SA does not provide its own SASSA status-checking form.
How Long Does a SASSA Pending Status Take?
There is no single guaranteed waiting period that applies to every pending application.
How quickly the status changes can depend on which application you submitted and whether SASSA still needs to complete verification or obtain additional information.
Because of this, be careful with websites or social-media posts promising that every pending status will change after a fixed number of days.
For an SRD monthly result, SASSA’s published status guidance tells applicants whose period is still pending to check the status again later for an update.
If your status has remained unchanged and you believe there may be a problem with the information on your application, use the official SASSA channels to check what action, if any, is required.
Should I Reapply If My Status Says Pending?
Do not automatically submit another application simply because the existing one says Pending.
Pending generally indicates that an application has already been received and is still going through assessment.
Submitting unnecessary duplicate information may not solve the underlying issue.
Instead:
- confirm your current status;
- read any instruction shown by SASSA;
- make sure your personal information is accurate;
- complete any verification requested through an official SASSA channel; and
- only reapply when the official service specifically indicates that reapplication is required.
A Reapplication Pending result is different from a normal monthly Pending result.
That distinction is explained in our SASSA Status Meanings guide.
Check Whether SASSA Is Asking You to Verify Your Identity
Some applicants may be required to complete additional identity verification.
SASSA’s 2026 grant guidance states that certain SRD applicants may be required to complete facial biometric authentication as part of verification. Applicants with particular statuses may also be instructed through the official SRD portal to request a verification link and complete the required process.
If SASSA has specifically asked you to complete identity verification, follow only the instructions provided through an official SASSA service.
Do not pay anyone to perform verification for you.
Do not send a selfie, ID copy, OTP, PIN or banking credentials to an unknown WhatsApp number or social-media account.
Check Your Personal Information
Incorrect information can interfere with verification.
Check that information submitted to SASSA is accurate, particularly your:
- name and surname;
- South African ID information where applicable;
- cellphone number;
- banking information; and
- other information requested during the application process.
SASSA has advised applicants to provide accurate information to avoid unnecessary delays with applications and verification.
If the issue appears to involve your bank account or payment information, see our SASSA Banking Details guide.
What If My Banking Details Are Pending?
Bank Details Pending is not exactly the same as a normal application Pending status.
SASSA’s status guidance has historically used Bank Details Pending where an application was received but the required banking details or payment preference had not yet been provided.
If you see wording specifically referring to banking details, follow the instructions shown on the official SRD service.

Pending vs Approved but No Payment Date
These are two different situations.
Pending
Your assessment or verification is not yet complete.
Approved but No Payment Date
A decision has already been made for the relevant period, but a payment date may not yet have been processed or displayed.
SASSA’s published SRD status guidance has explained that where a period is approved, applicants should check the payday field. If there is no payday displayed, a payment may not yet have been processed.
If your result already says Approved, our SASSA Payment Dates guide can help you understand how payment timing works.
Pending vs Declined
It is also important not to confuse these two results.
Pending:
A final assessment is still outstanding.
Declined:
SASSA has completed the assessment for that period and found the applicant unsuccessful. A reason should normally be associated with the decision.
If your SRD result changes from Pending to Declined and you believe the reason is incorrect, you may have an appeal option.
Read our SASSA Appeal Guide before taking action because SRD appeals and appeals involving other SASSA grants do not follow exactly the same process.
Can I Appeal a Pending SASSA Status?
Normally, an appeal is used to challenge a decision that has already been made.
A pending result is not the same as a declined decision.
For SRD, SASSA’s official service says applicants have a right to appeal when their application has been declined, with appeals relating to the relevant declined month.
Therefore, you generally need an actual decision before there is something to challenge through the appeal process.
If your status later becomes Declined, check the reason displayed and then follow the correct appeal procedure.
See our SASSA Appeal Guide for more information.
What Should I Do While My SASSA Status Is Pending?
You usually do not need to panic or immediately submit another application.
Instead:
- Check the official status again periodically.
SRD results can be displayed separately for different months. - Read the exact message shown.
“Pending”, “Bank Details Pending”, “Reapplication Pending” and “Identity Verification” do not necessarily require the same action. - Make sure your information is correct.
Incorrect personal or banking information may interfere with verification. - Complete official verification when requested.
Follow instructions provided through SASSA’s verified channels. - Do not pay anyone to speed up your application.
A person on WhatsApp, Facebook or Telegram cannot legitimately guarantee approval. - Protect your personal information.
Never send your PIN, password or OTP to somebody claiming they can remove a pending status.
Can Grant Assist SA Remove a Pending Status?
No.
Grant Assist SA cannot:
- check your private SASSA record;
- remove a Pending status;
- approve an application;
- change a payment date;
- lodge an application on your behalf; or
- access SASSA’s internal system.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is SASSA Pending a rejection?
No. Pending normally means the assessment or verification process has not yet reached a final decision.
Does Pending mean I will receive R370?
No. Pending does not guarantee approval or payment. Your application must first complete the required assessment.
Why is my SRD status Pending for this month but Approved for another month?
SRD eligibility is assessed for individual periods. As a result, one month’s assessment may be complete while another month’s result is still pending.
Should I appeal if my status is Pending?
An appeal normally relates to a decision such as a decline. If your application is still pending, check for a final decision or any instruction from SASSA first.
Do I need to submit my application again?
Not simply because it says Pending. Reapply only when the official service indicates that a new application or reapplication is required.
Can incorrect banking details cause problems?
Banking information is part of the SRD process and may need to be verified. If your status specifically mentions banking details, use the official SRD service and read our SASSA Banking Details guide.
Where should I check my SRD status?
Use the official SASSA SRD service at srd.sassa.gov.za. You can also use our SRD Status Check guide to understand the process before visiting the official service.
