SRD grant information
SRD Status Check
Check your SRD application on the official service, and understand why an SRD result can change from one month to the next.
Grant Assist SA provides independent information and guidance. This is not the official SRD website and we have no access to any application.
Check your SRD status
SRD status checks happen on the official SRD service, which is separate from the main SASSA website. We cannot see your application and we never ask for your details.
Opens srd.sassa.gov.za in a new tab. Grant Assist SA has no status database and no connection to SASSA systems.
Protect your personal information
An SRD check asks for your ID number and the mobile number you applied with. Enter them only on the official service, and check the address in your browser bar first. SRD applicants are targeted heavily by fake status-check sites.
Nobody legitimate will ask you to pay to check your SRD status, to speed up a decision, or to guarantee an approval. Never share your PIN, banking password or one-time password.
Why your SRD status changes every month
This is the part that catches most people out, so it is worth understanding before you check anything.
SRD is not decided once. Unlike the older persons or disability grants, it is reassessed every single month. Each month SASSA runs the checks again, and each month produces its own separate result.
That is why you can be approved in one month and declined in the next without anything having gone wrong with your application. It has not been cancelled and you have not been removed. That month simply did not pass the checks.
So an SRD status is a result for a particular month, not a permanent standing. When you check, look at which month the result belongs to.
Common SRD status results
Full status guideResults are shown per month, and the exact wording changes from time to time. These are the ones applicants report most often.
That month has not been finalised yet. The assessment for a month can run after the month itself has started.
That month passed the checks. Payment is handled separately, so look for a payment date or a banking message with the result.
That month did not pass one or more checks. A reason is normally shown with it, and that reason is what determines what you can do next.
The checks found money coming in during that month. If that finding is wrong, the appeal is where you say so.
A new application or a confirmation step is needed before the assessment can continue.
An approved month cannot be paid until valid banking information has been submitted and verified on the official service.
Your details did not match the records checked. Follow only the instructions shown on the official service.
An approved month does not mean the money has been sent. Bank verification is a separate step, and it is the most common reason an approved month has not been paid yet.

SASSA GrantsWhat to do next depends on the result you were given.
What if my SRD status has not changed?
A month sitting on pending is common. Usual reasons include:
Nobody outside SASSA can tell you how long a month takes to finalise. Anyone quoting you a specific date, or offering to speed it up, is not being straight with you.
- The assessment for that month has not run yet
- Checks against other records are still in progress
- Banking information is still being verified
- The application needs an additional review step
- Administrative or system delays on the official service
What can you do if a month is declined?
Read the reason attached to that specific month first. An appeal is made against one month at a time, and there is a limited period after the decision in which you can lodge it. The current period is stated on the official appeals service.
Appeals are free. Do not pay anyone who says they can guarantee a successful appeal or a faster outcome.
- Check which month was declined and the reason given for it.
- Decide whether you believe that reason is factually wrong.
- Lodge an appeal for that month through the official appeals service, within the period it states.
- Keep any proof that supports your position.
- Check the appeal outcome on the same official service.
Frequently asked questions
Can I check my SRD status on this website?
No. Grant Assist SA is an independent information website with no status database and no connection to SASSA systems. We explain the process and send you to the official SRD service to do the actual check.
Is this the official SRD website?
No. The official service is srd.sassa.gov.za. This site is independent and is not operated by, endorsed by or affiliated with SASSA or the South African government.
Why was I approved last month and declined this month?
Because SRD is reassessed every month. Each month is checked separately, so a different result in a new month does not mean your application was cancelled or that something went wrong.
What does alternative income source identified mean?
It means the checks for that month found money coming in. If you believe that finding is wrong, an appeal for that month is the way to say so.
My status says approved but I have not been paid. Why?
Approval and payment are separate steps. The most common cause is banking information that has not been submitted or has not finished being verified on the official service.
What if I no longer have the phone number I applied with?
That is handled through the official SRD service. Do not use a third party who offers to change it for you.
How long do I have to appeal?
There is a limited period after the decision for each month. The current period is stated on the official appeals service, and we do not publish a figure here because it changes.
Does it cost anything to check or appeal?
No. Checking your status and lodging an appeal are free on the official service.
