SASSA Payment Dates

How SASSA payment dates work, why your money may not arrive on the day you expect, and where the official schedule is published.

Grant Assist SA provides independent information. We do not pay grants, we cannot see your payment, and we are not the official SASSA website.

Find the official payment schedule

SASSA publishes the payment dates for each cycle on its own website. That published schedule is the only one that counts, and it is where you should check before planning around a date.

Opens the official government website in a new tab. Grant Assist SA does not process or release any payment.

Nobody can pay you early

Payment dates attract scams, because people are waiting on money they need. No person, website, app or WhatsApp group can move your payment forward, unlock it, or find out anything about it that the official service does not already show you.

Never pay anyone to release, speed up or check a grant payment, and never share your ID number, card details, PIN or one-time password with someone who offers to help.

How SASSA payment dates work

Grants are not all paid on the same day. SASSA releases payments over several days in each cycle, and different grant types are paid on different days, so the date that applies to you depends on which grant you receive.

SASSA publishes the dates for each cycle on its own website. Those dates are the ones that matter, and they are set per cycle rather than being fixed to the same calendar day forever.

A payment date is the day money is released, which is not always the day it appears in your account. What happens after release depends on how you are paid, and that is usually where the difference of a day or two comes from.

How you are paid changes when you see the money

Two people with the same grant and the same payment date can see the money at different times, because the payment method differs.

Paid into a bank account

The money is released to your bank, which then applies its own processing. This is generally the most direct route, but the bank still has to post it to your account.

Paid through Postbank or a SASSA card

Released to the account linked to your card. Availability can depend on the network and on the channel you use to withdraw.

Collected at a retailer or pay point

Money is available once it has been released to the collection channel. Queues are heaviest on the first day of a cycle, and nothing is lost by collecting later.

Banking details not yet verified

An approved payment cannot be released until valid banking information has been submitted and verified on the official service. This is a common reason an approved grant has not been paid.

Your grant is not lost if you do not collect it on the first day. Money that has been released stays available to you.

Published payment dates

Dates are shown here only when we have checked them against the official SASSA schedule and recorded when we did. If that check is missing or has gone out of date, this section links you to the official schedule instead of showing you something we cannot stand behind.

We are not showing dates right now

We do not have a payment schedule we can confirm is current, so we are not showing one. Payment dates change from cycle to cycle, and an out-of-date date is worse than none. Check the official SASSA schedule below.

Only you can see this: no payment dates have been entered. Add them under Customize > SASSA Payment Dates Page > Payment Schedule Table, and record the date you checked them.

How to check your own payment

  1. Find the official payment date for your grant type on the SASSA website.
  2. Check your own status on the official service, to confirm the payment was approved and banking details are verified.
  3. Check your bank account or card balance from the payment date onward.
  4. Allow for your bank or payment channel to process it.
  5. If it has still not arrived after that, contact SASSA directly.

What you may need

Enter these only on an official SASSA service. We never ask for them, and anyone who does in exchange for payment information is running a scam.

  • Which grant you receive, because dates differ by grant type
  • Your South African ID information, for the official status check
  • The bank account or card the grant is paid to
  • The cycle or month you are asking about

What if my payment has not arrived?

A payment that is late on the day it was due is common, and it usually has an ordinary explanation:

We cannot tell you when a specific payment will arrive, and nobody outside SASSA can. Treat a promise of a specific date, or an offer to release it faster, as a scam.

  • The payment date for your grant type has not been reached yet
  • Money has been released but your bank has not posted it
  • Banking information has not been submitted or verified
  • The monthly assessment for that cycle has not been finalised
  • Details on the account do not match and are being checked
  • Administrative or system delays at the payment channel

If the payment still does not arrive

Once the official payment date for your grant has passed and your bank has had time to process it, treat it as something to raise rather than something to wait out.

Contacting SASSA is free. Do not pay a third party to chase a payment on your behalf.

  1. Confirm the official payment date for your grant type, not a date you saw shared somewhere.
  2. Check your status on the official service and look for a banking or verification message.
  3. Check with your bank that nothing has been held or reversed on their side.
  4. Contact SASSA directly through an official channel.
  5. Keep a note of the dates and any reference you are given.

Frequently asked questions

Does this website pay grants or show my payment?

No. Grant Assist SA is an independent information website. We do not pay grants, we cannot see your payment, and we have no connection to SASSA systems.

Why are payment dates different for different grants?

SASSA releases payments over several days in each cycle rather than all at once, and different grant types are paid on different days.

Why has my money not arrived on the payment date?

A payment date is the day money is released, not always the day it reaches your account. Your bank or payment channel still has to process it, and unverified banking details are a common cause of a longer delay.

Do I have to collect on the first day?

No. Money that has been released stays available to you, and the first day of a cycle is usually the busiest.

Can anyone make my payment come earlier?

No. Nobody can move a payment forward. Anyone offering to do it, for a fee or otherwise, is running a scam.

Why does this page not always show the dates?

Because payment dates change every cycle. We publish them only when we have checked them against the official SASSA schedule and recorded when we did, and we hide them again once that check is out of date. An old date is worse than no date.

Where are the official payment dates published?

On the official SASSA website. That published schedule is the only authoritative one.

Official payment information

Use official SASSA channels, not this website and not any third party, for:

  • The payment schedule for the current cycle
  • Whether your own payment has been approved or released
  • Submitting or changing banking information
  • Queries about a payment that has not arrived
  • Official announcements about payment dates

These are the official government destinations. Check the address in your browser before entering anything.

How we handle payment dates

Checked against the source

Any date shown here has been copied from the official SASSA schedule, and the page records when that was done.

Hidden when it goes stale

If the check is missing or out of date, the table hides itself automatically rather than showing a date we cannot stand behind.

Never estimated

We do not predict, calculate or guess a payment date, and we never state a processing time as fact.
