SASSA Status Check
Check your SASSA application or grant status, and understand what your status actually means.
Grant Assist SA provides independent information and guidance. This is not the official SASSA website.
Check your SASSA status
Status checks happen on the official SASSA service, not here. We cannot see your application, and we do not ask for your details. Use the button below to go straight to the official service.
Opens the official government website in a new tab. Grant Assist SA has no status database and no connection to SASSA systems.
Protect your personal information
A status check asks for personal details. Enter them only on an official government website whose address belongs to sassa.gov.za. Be careful with your ID number, banking information, PIN, password, one-time password and any login details.
Never share your SASSA PIN, banking password or one-time password with this website or with anyone who contacts you claiming to be us.
What is a SASSA status check?
A status check is a lookup on the official SASSA service that tells you where your application or grant currently sits.
It does not decide anything. It reports the stage your application has reached and, sometimes, what is expected from you next. People check it because the process runs quietly in the background and a status message is often the only signal that something has moved.
A status is accurate as at the moment you look at it. It can change, and it does not on its own guarantee approval or a payment date.
Common SASSA status results
Full status guideWording differs between services and changes over time. These are the results applicants report most often, and what each one generally indicates.
The application or a monthly assessment has not been finalised. No action is usually needed beyond checking the official service again later.
The application has passed the relevant assessment. Check the official result for a payment date, a banking message or further instructions.
The application did not meet one or more requirements. Read the reason given, then check whether an appeal or reconsideration is available to you.
The application has been sent for additional review or verification. Follow only the instructions shown on the official service.
Details are still being verified. This can involve checks against other government records.
Payment information may still need to be submitted or confirmed through the official SASSA banking service.
A status does not always mean immediate payment. Verification, monthly assessments and administrative checks can affect what happens next.
How to check your SASSA status
- Go to the official SASSA service.
- Select the status-check option for the grant you applied for.
- Enter the information the official service asks for, on that site only.
- Complete any verification step it requires.
- Read your current status and follow the instructions shown with it.
What you may need
Enter these only on an official and secure SASSA service. Never send them to us, and never send them to anyone who contacts you offering to check on your behalf.
- Your South African ID information
- The details you used when you applied
- The contact number linked to the application
- Anything else the official service asks for at the time
What if my status has not changed?
A status that stays the same for a while is common. Possible reasons include:
We cannot tell you how long any of these take, and neither can anyone who is not SASSA. Treat a promise of a specific date from a third party as a warning sign.
- The application is still being processed
- Verification against other records is still running
- Something in the application needs additional review
- System or administrative delays on the official service
What can you do if your application is declined?
Start with the exact reason shown on the official status service. A declined result does not have one single fix.
Do not pay anyone who claims they can guarantee a successful appeal.
- Read the reason given for the decision.
- Check whether an appeal or reconsideration is available for that grant.
- Follow the official SASSA instructions for that process.
- Use official SASSA channels if you need help with it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I check my SASSA status on this website?
No. Grant Assist SA is an independent information website with no status database and no connection to SASSA systems. We explain the process and send you to the official service to do the actual check.
Is this the official SASSA website?
No. This is an independent information website. It is not operated by, endorsed by or affiliated with SASSA or the South African government.
How do I check my SASSA status?
Go to the official SASSA service for the grant you applied for, choose the status-check option, and enter the details it asks for on that site.
What information do I need to check my status?
Usually your South African ID information and the contact details you used when applying. The official service tells you exactly what it needs at the time.
Why is my SASSA status still pending?
Pending generally means the application or a monthly assessment has not been finalised. We cannot say how long that takes, and any specific date from a third party should be treated with suspicion.
What does an approved status mean?
It means the application has passed the relevant assessment. Payment is handled separately, so check the official result for a payment date or a banking message.
What should I do if my application is declined?
Read the reason shown on the official service, then check whether an appeal or reconsideration is available for that grant and follow the official process.
